Parliamentary Representatives from G20 Nations Meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Ahead of P20 Summit

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held meetings with parliamentary representatives from G20 nations and special invitee countries in preparation for the P20 summit, set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.

Among the notable figures he met were Milton Dick, the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives; Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad of Bangladesh; Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council in the UAE; and Ashebir Woldegiorgis Gayo, Acting President of the Pan African Parliament. During these interactions, Om Birla expressed gratitude to Australia for supporting India’s priorities in the G20 and commended their backing of India’s efforts to include the African Union in the G20.

He highlighted the deepening bilateral relations between India and Australia and emphasized the need to expand parliamentary cooperation. In his meeting with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, he underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation between India and Bangladesh and lauded the increasing connectivity between the two countries across various sectors.

Om Birla also noted that initiatives like the ‘Global Biofuel Alliance’ and the ‘India Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor’ have strengthened India’s ties with the UAE, as discussed with Saqr Ghobash. In his meeting with Ashebir Woldegiorgis Gayo, Birla congratulated the Acting President for the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 and engaged in discussions on key issues and potential areas for collaboration between the two Parliaments.
