Raghubar Das, the newly-appointed Governor of Odisha, sought the blessings of his elder sister, a tradition where she lit lamps and applied sandalwood and vermilion on his forehead to mark the joy of his new journey. The 68-year-old BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Jharkhand expressed his gratitude to the Central BJP leadership for this constitutional role. He reflected on his journey from being a Tata Steel worker to serving as a legislator, minister, and Jharkhand’s Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019. Raghubar Das highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on the federal structure and the development of both the country and states. He also expressed confidence in Odisha’s development under Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s leadership. Das is set to replace the incumbent Governor, Prof. Ganeshi Lal, and has a rich political background, having served as Chief Minister while President Droupadi Murmu was Governor from 2015 to 2021.
