Smartphones, Internet for women: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot launches scheme
1 min readTerming it as a significant step towards ‘women empowerment’, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched his government’s ambitious Indira Gandhi Smartphone Scheme at a programme in Jaipur’s Birla Auditorium on Thursday.
“These mobile phones are not being given to only make you happy. Some people and our Prime Minister say that revdis (freebies) are being given. Those people are insulting the women, this is women empowerment,” Gehlot said at the launch.
On the occasion, the CM distributed smartphones to the first group of beneficiaries and also unveiled the Digital Sakhi Handbook – being given along with the smartphones – which is a comprehensive guide that equips recipients with essential knowledge about smartphone usage.
