Ssistant Engineer Arrested for Accepting Bribe in Odisha Vigilance Operation

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance authorities arrested Ramakanta Mallick, an Assistant Engineer (Estimator) working in the office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Division in Rayagada. He was apprehended while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a complainant, who was the family of a contractor. The bribe was intended to expedite the processing of a file for signing an agreement between the contractor and the Executive Engineer of the PH Division in Rayagada for the execution of two projects.
The entire bribe amount was successfully recovered from Mr. Mallick and has been seized.
According to Odisha Vigilance, a meticulously planned operation was executed to capture the accused. Following his arrest, Vigilance officials are conducting simultaneous searches at three locations associated with Mr. Mallick to investigate potential disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been registered against Mr. Mallick under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the Korapur Vigilance Police Station in connection with this incident. The investigation is ongoing, and a comprehensive report will be issued in due course.
