SS Rajamouli lauds Ram Charan, Jr NTR as ‘exceptionally good dancers’, talks about Naatu Naatu

SS Rajamouli, the director of RRR, opened up about the passion for dance that Ram Charan and Jr NTR had and said they were ‘exceptionally good dancers’.

Naatuy Naatu from RRR has become a rage around the world not just for its music but for the way in which the Tollywood stars danced their hearts out.

Rajamouli, in a session conducted by Vanity Fair, spoke about the emotional significance of Naatu Naatu in RRR, which was set in pre-Independence India. He said in the session that dance was not about how acrobatic you are or if you are perfect. The director praised both Ram Charan and Tarek for the dance skills.

“You should really enjoy your dance, only then can the audience get the enjoyment,” Rajamouli explained. “Secondly, in every moment of the dance you are conveying an emotion, an energy. (Naatu Naatu) Even though we are humiliated by you, but we have this weapon to give it back to you.”


RRR’s Naatu Naatu has made India proud by fetching an Oscar 2023 nomination in the Best Original Song category. The Academy recently confirmed that the fast-paced song will be performed live at the Oscars stage with Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava singing it on stage. Music director MM Keeravaani has revealed that the rehearsals for the live performance are underway with LA dancers dancing to the song.

The RRR song will be sung for exactly 2-and-a-half minutes on stage by our Indian singers. Rickey Minor is the music director for the 2023 Oscars and Keeravaani will be working with him for the Naatu Naatu piece.

Kalaa Bhairava, on learning about his performance, was quoted by the media as saying, “It is indeed an incredible feeling. I cannot describe my delight in mere words. To get an opportunity to perform on the world’s biggest stage feels exhilarating.”
