It’s the time of remakes. Several of them have not worked but remakes continue to be made and is an accepted trend.
Ranbir Kapoor, who has shied away from remakes till now, was asked to comment on this aspect during a recent media interaction, held as part of the promotions of his upcoming film, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.Ranbir Kapoor REVEALS that he got condolence messages for several weeks after Bombay Velvet’s failure: ‘When Aamir Khan came to meet me and said ‘I am with you’, I realized, ‘Bahut badi gadbad ho gayi hai”
Ranbir Kapoor said, ‘Since the beginning of my career, I have been against remaking a film or remaking a song. Even the one remixed song that I was a part of, the title song of Bachna AeHaseeno (2008), I had a little issue. But I was very new and I didn’t have a say. I believe that I am in a position where I can create original content. I also feel that if a film has been made, it has been made to its best ability and it’s hard to recreate it or make a better version of it.’
When asked if there’s a film that he would like to be a part of, if it was remade, he replied, ‘I really liked Anthony’s part in Amar AkbarAnthony (1977). I like my father’s work in Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981), a film that didn’t work. And I also like Shree 420 (1955).’
Ranbir Kapoor was then quizzed about the ‘highest high’ and ‘lowest low’ moments of his career. Ranbir emphasized, ‘Thankfully, I am a balanced personality. I have never felt very high or low. After every film, my mother (Neetu Kapoor) keeps shaking me and asking me, ‘Are you happy? Are you sad?’. I also don’t express too much.’
Ranbir continued, ‘However, talking about lows, Bombay Velvet (2015) was a very big flop. It was a celebrated disaster. I felt that it was a film that flopped and that’s fine. A week passed and I continued getting 100 condolence messages. It also happened in the second week. When it happened in the third week and when Aamir Khan came to meet me and said ‘I am with you’, I realized, ‘Bahut badi gadbad ho gayi hai’. Otherwise, I have not felt (the lows). I am very confident in my heart and as an artist that my intention is to be a good actor. The stardom will come if my work is good. I am not really chasing stardom right now. I hope I get a chance to work with good filmmakers and that I am offered good scripts with good music.’
