Odisha CM Felicitates Participants of World Skills Competition

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today honored participants of the World Skills Competition in a special ceremony at Lok Seva Bhavan. During the event, the Chief Minister awarded Amarendra Sahu, a bronze medalist in the competition, with a cash prize of ₹25 lakh, and Gedela Akhil, who received the Medallion for Excellence, was granted ₹5 lakh.

In his address, the Chief Minister expressed pride in Odisha’s young talents, stating that their skills are now recognized globally. He highlighted the importance of skill development, emphasizing that Odisha is working towards becoming a developed state by 2036 and 2047. He also mentioned that Odisha’s skilled youth are the backbone of the state’s future, playing a pivotal role in shaping a prosperous Odisha.

The Chief Minister underscored the state’s commitment to transforming the skill development movement into a widespread initiative. He reaffirmed that Odisha’s youth are the state’s true identity and their contributions represent a new revolution for the region. Majhi shared that the achievements of the state’s young talents in global platforms are testimony to Odisha’s potential in skill development.

He also reflected on the World Skills Competition held in Lyon, France, from September 10-15, where 60 participants from India competed, with 15 representing Odisha. Among them, Amarendra Sahu from Debagarh district secured a bronze medal in the Akshaya Shakti category, while Gedela Akhil from Gajapati district received a Medallion for Excellence in Water Technology.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister stressed that the skill of Odisha’s youth is now being recognized on the global stage. He proudly stated that winning awards has become routine for Odisha’s young talents, who are a source of pride for the state. He called upon them to continue building a bright future for Odisha, bearing the responsibility of constructing a new and vibrant state.

Additionally, the Chief Minister unveiled the roadmap for skill development in the state. He reiterated that the government believes in transforming dreams into reality, and this year’s budget allocated ₹1050 crore towards the implementation of skill development and vocational education programs.

Majhi also mentioned the CM ASPIRE scheme, aimed at preparing students for employment in modern industries. With 26 industries worth ₹45,000 crore approved, creating 36,000 job opportunities, the state aims to equip students with the necessary skills to meet industry demands. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of making students “industry-ready,” as it is key to ensuring employment in various sectors.
