Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall Starting September 29

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating the likelihood of substantial rainfall across Odisha beginning on September 29. This is due to the potential formation of a cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman Sea and its surrounding areas.

According to the midday bulletin from the weather office, this cyclonic circulation could lead to the development of a low-pressure system over the north Andaman Sea and the east-central Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours. Subsequently, it may move in a west-northwest direction, possibly intensifying as it progresses.

The IMD’s weather alert for the next five days is as follows:

Day 1: (Applicable until 8:30 AM IST on September 27, 2023)

Expect light to moderate rain or thundershowers in a few areas across Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Stay Updated): Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada districts.

Day 2: (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 28.09.2023)

Anticipate light to moderate rain or thundershowers in several areas, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Gajapati, and one or two places in the rest of the districts in Odisha.

Day 3: (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.09.2023)

Expect light to moderate rain or thundershowers in several districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and one or two places in the remaining districts of Odisha.

Day 4: (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.09.2023)

Look for light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many areas, especially in North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts, with a chance of rain in a few places in the rest of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Stay Updated): 1) Thunderstorms with lightning may occur in one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur.

2) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely in one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts.

Day 5: (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 01.10.2023)

Anticipate light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many areas across Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Stay Updated): 1) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur in one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Bolangir districts.

2) Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, and Kandhamal districts.

Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated on these weather warnings and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
