A dramatic scene unfolded in Odisha’s Koraput district when a colossal boulder crashed onto the railway tracks during the early hours of Sunday. The incident transpired as sand and stones were being transported for a vital railway expansion project. Around 3 a.m., a sudden landslide unleashed a cascade of mud and enormous boulders, severely impeding train services in the region.

The disruption resulted in the cancellation of eight trains, and numerous others had to divert from their usual routes. Notably, the Jagdalpur-Vishakapatnam Express found itself stranded at the Koraput railway station, with passengers awaiting further updates. Commuters on several other trains were also left in limbo, waiting at the station for the situation to normalize.

Adding to the chaos, the landslide wreaked havoc on the local infrastructure, damaging approximately ten electric poles. This incident serves as a stark reminder of nature’s unpredictable power and its impact on the transportation network.
