Now Releasing Overflow Through 24 Channels
Sambalpur: Responding to relentless rainfall upstream along the Mahanadi, the Hirakud Dam team made a decisive move on Saturday, adding two more sluice gates to the equation. At present, the surplus floodwaters are channeled through an impressive 24 gates.
Of these, a whopping 16 have been unshackled on the dam’s left side, while the remaining eight grant passage to the rising waters on the right. This strategic operation became essential due to the unyielding influx of water from the relentless rain in the upper reaches of the Mahanadi River.
