EOW Investigates Odisha Gramya Bank Branch Manager in Eastern Media Loan Scam
On Thursday morning, a team of officials from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Police Crime Branch, accompanied by a cyber team, descended upon the Odisha Gramya Bank branch in Jayadev Vihar. Their visit was part of the ongoing investigation into the media house associated with Khanadapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik.
During their visit, EOW officials meticulously examined various documents and extensively questioned the branch manager. The focus of this inquiry is a serious case of organized bank fraud, with allegations involving legislator Patnaik, who is also the Editor of an Odia Daily, as well as the Human Resources (HR) head of the media house, Baijayanti Kar.
In a related development, Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Remuna MLA Sudhanshu Sekhar Parida faced expulsion from the BJD party on Thursday. The BJD cited their expulsion as a response to their alleged involvement in anti-people activities and their connection to the loan scam.
Earlier this week, three joint teams consisting of 12 officials from the EOW and Commissionerate Police carried out raids at the media house’s office located in the Rasulgarh area of Bhubaneswar. The investigation continues as authorities delve deeper into the loan fraud allegations surrounding this case.
