Bhubaneswar, November 3, 2023 – A tragic road accident that occurred near Power House Chhak in Bhubaneswar on October 31 has taken a troubling turn, with allegations of police silence and discrepancies in official reports. The incident involved a luxury car, a Range Rover, and a motorcycle, leading to the tragic demise of one victim and leaving another, a retired CISF jawan, in critical condition.
The deceased has been identified as Lopamudra Sahu, while the injured victim, Kanhucharan Nayak, is currently fighting for his life in the hospital. Nayak’s brother has made startling allegations, suggesting that the police are hesitant to act due to the involvement of an “influential” person in the accident.
What has added fuel to the controversy is the Commissionerate Police’s initial press release, which contained a different vehicle registration number compared to the subsequent correction. In the initial release, the vehicle was identified with the registration number OD-33 AF-6726. However, about two and a half hours later, the police corrected the registration number to OD-23K 0006.
The luxury car with the corrected registration number, OD-23K 0006, is reported to belong to a company where Bishal Kumar Das, the son of the late former Odisha minister Naba Das, serves as a director.
Nayak’s brother voiced his concerns, stating, “We are poor and facing hardship in arranging funds for the treatment of my brother. We are not at all satisfied with the probe. As they are influential, police are not taking action.”
These allegations have escalated as the deceased Lopamudra’s brother expressed similar doubts, saying, “My sister had sustained severe injuries in the accident. Police are not taking action. Police had initially informed about one registration number, and now it has been changed. As the Minister’s son is involved, police are trying to suppress the matter. We want justice as we do not know what the police are doing. Nobody can compensate for our loss. We do not want anything but justice.”
This incident continues to raise questions about transparency and accountability in the investigation, as the victims’ families seek answers and justice in the wake of this tragic accident. The authorities are under increased scrutiny, and the public is awaiting further developments in this case.
