2 min read

Nagpur: Amid speculation that there will be a “role reversal” between Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to hold a crucial meeting with the two leaders in Nagpur today.

Shah will arrive at Napgpur airport at around 9.40 pm today. He will be welcomed by Shinde. Later, he will hold a meeting with Shinde and Fadnavis at a hotel.

This comes a day after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) claimed that the Maharashtra CM has taken leave for three days as he was reportedly asked to “switch roles” with Deputy CM Fadnavis.

Eknath Shinde had last year revolted against then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray along with rebel Sena leader, leading to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. He joined hands with the BJP and became chief minister of the state in June 2022.

CM Eknath Shinde asked to switch roles with Dy CM Fadnavis?

Citing media reports, NCP national spokesperson Clyde Castro said that there is a buzz that there will be a “role reversal” between Sinde and Fadnavis. He also said that meetings were also held in Delhi in this regard.

“Is this true ?? Sources in media say that there will be a role reversal between Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis in the incumbent Maharashtra government. Hush hush meetings in Delhi…,” he tweeted.

“Is this true too??? There is news that Mr. Eknath Shinde has taken 3 days’ leave from work.Sources in the media say that he has taken leave as he is upset because @BJP4India wants him to ‘switch roles’ in the incumbent Maharashtra government with Mr.Devendra Fadnavis,” he said in another tweet.

Rival Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray also claimed that Shinde was on his way out. An editorial in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said the “Chief Minister will surely go”.

Not on leave: Shinde

However, Shinde refuted the reports and said that he was not on leave and that he has been busy reviewing various works, meeting people and holding meetings with officials.

Rubbishing various claims by the opposition, Shinde said, “We have made them sit at home…they have no choice other than leveling allegations. We will not answer an allegation by a counter-allegation, but we will give them a reply through our work.”
