A B.Ed student was shot in Bihar’s Bhagalpur while he was recording video of a scuffle between two groups from a terrace. The incident took place in Bhagalpur’s Naugachia.
The deceased, identified as Ashish Kumar, was rushed to a nearby hospital but he died during treatment.
A video of the incident showed two groups involved in a scuffle on the street. Some of the men present were seen with weapons.
Talking to India Today, Ashish’s brother, Sachin, said that a fight broke out between two groups of local corporators on the street in front of their house. The two of them had gone to the terrace to watch the fight.
While the two groups were fighting against each other, someone fired a gun and the bullet hit Ashish.
Ashish was a second year student at Teachers Training College. His father, Pradeep Pandit, owns a hardware shop in Naugachia.
According to eyewitnesses, Ward No. 10 Councilor Manish Singh’s brother Lal Singh was allegedly beaten up by Navgachia Municipal Council chairman Preeti Kumari’s husband W Yadav, her brother Pappu Yadav, and several other unidentified persons.
Councillor Manish Singh was also present on the spot as he tried to resolve the fight between the two parties.
In the midst of the fight, W Yadav and his associates started firing. They reportedly fired at the people making videos on the terrace and one of the bullets hit Ashish.
The entire incident, from the fight to Ashish getting shot, was caught on camera.
The police have started an investigation into the matter. Navgachia SP Sushant Kumar Saroj said that those found guilty will not be spared, adding that a team has been deployed to nab the accused.
