The Chhattisgarh government has stopped the survey being conducted to ascertain the profile of the Mahanadi river.

Following the direction of the Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT), a hydrographic survey was being conducted to ascertain the profile of the Mahanadi river.

According to sources, the Water Resources department of Chhattisgarh has not allowed to carry out the survey in its territory. The survey had started from Hirakud reservoir and reached till Kalma barrage.

The survey was launched after the MWDT asked Odisha government for the current profile of the river.

The tribunal has sought the survey report to know about the changes in the cross-section and longitudinal section of the river.

Mumbai-based firm Siet Engineering Pvt Ltd has been entrusted with the survey work.
