Training camps on coconut farming have been organized for young people from backward classes
A six-day training camp on coconut farming has been organized in collaboration with the Rayagada and Narikel Development Board, Pitapalli, Khordha by the Center for Agricultural Sciences, in the Gram Panchayat area of Vamini village under Ramnaguda block. The training camp was attended by 40 Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, aged 18 to 40.The training camp was inaugurated by Dr. Rajat Pal, Deputy Director, Narikel Development Board, Pitapalli, Khordha, who emphasized the need for coconut farming. Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu, a retired professor of OUAT, was the head coach of the training camp and explained all the technical know-how to cultivate coconuts in a better way.Mr. Rajiv Tudu, a senior scientist and head of the Rayagada Center for Agricultural Sciences, has been trained on how to control various diseases and pests affecting coconut trees. Mr. Binod Chandra Behera, a scientist at the Center for Agricultural Sciences, discussed in detail how to grow a variety of coconut orchards in the coconut orchard, the market demand for coconut farming, how to make a variety of valuable commodities from coconuts, and the cost of coconut farming.Mr. Parimal Tarai, Assistant Program Officer, Center for Agricultural Sciences, spoke on the management of nutrients in coconut farming, the production and application of various varieties of coconut saplings. During the first half of each day, the trainees were trained to climb coconut trees with the help of an upholstery plant. Horticulture officials also participated in the training camp.
